Battle Area Community Transport (BACT) was founded in 1999 in response for the need for regular transport to include the rural areas of East Sussex and its inhabitants.

BACT provide regular friendly bus services centred on Battle, Burwash and Ticehurst, travelling to the following villages: Ashburnham, Battle, Brede, Broad Oak, Etchingham, Flimwell, Mountfield, Robertsbridge, Netherfield, Sedlescombe, Stonegate, Ticehurst and Westfield.

We also operate flexible bus services, providing a wide range of pick-up/set down points to meet customer requirements, for our popular trips to Ashford, Eastbourne, Tunbridge Wells, Tenterden and Rye.

We regret that we do not offer any Patient Transportation Services outside of our regular or flexible bus services. Please contact South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust on 0300 1230999.

Using sixteen seater minibuses, we provide a valuable service for many people who would otherwise be socially excluded due to lack of public transport in rural areas. All our drivers are MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) trained and assessed.

Please note that from April 2014 concessionary passes will not be accepted before 9.30am due to East Sussex County Council regulations.

We are currently looking for additional volunteers as bus drivers and also a Project/Events Organiser in the office.

BACT is a registered charity, no. 1071961, donations, legacies and volunteers are gratefully accepted.

Most of our routes run to villages, hamlets and sheltered housing which are not serviced by commercial bus operators due to it not being cost effective for them.

In addition to regular services, we also transport the elderly and disabled on private outings. Special shopping trips and other excursions are organised on a regular basis to popular destinations and our buses can be hired by recognised organisations for outings to places of interest and special events.
All our bus drivers and staff, including directors, treasurer and fundraiser are volunteers. We only have one part-time admin staff in our office, this being essential to keep up with all the necessary regulations and to provide continuity. Our volunteers willingly give up their time to provide this service to the community on a regular basis.

In 2008 we were honored to receive the Queens Award for Voluntary Service.
